This is the lates traffic update on the closures between Fuqua and Scarsdale. If you are heading to Galveston this weekend, be prepared:
TRAFFIC ALERT: #GulfFwy closure this weekend POSTPONED In what has become an almost routine habit, a planned major weekend closure of the Gulf Freeway has been canceled. The northbound stretch between Scarsdale and Fuqua will be OPEN this weekend, Texas Department of Transportation - Houston District Office announced this morning. It's been moved to start at 9 p.m. June 23 through 5 a.m. June 26.
However, there will be alternating southbound lanes closed between Fuqua Street and Scarsdale Blvd. over the weekend, officials said Friday June 16th at 9pm To Monday June 19th at 5am. What that means is that one to two lanes will be closed at a time as crews realign the new lanes. At least two lanes remain open during the work and as crews finish one set of lanes, those are reopened and then others are closed. The construction work is actually the finishing touches on the Harris County portion of the Gulf Freeway expansion. This work is mostly lane stripe painting which cannot be done with cars on the road.
