Houston woman scammed couple out of nearly $10K in fake adoption

HOUSTON - Breanne Paquin and her husband very much want to be parents, and while struggling with infertility, they had decided to adopt via private adoption.

They traveled more than 1,000 miles from Ohio to Houston to adopt a baby boy, but after some odd communications and suspicious delays from the birth mother, they found out that there was no pregnancy, and they had been scammed after paying nearly $10,000 in medical bills. They had posted to social media looking for someone in need to give up a baby for adoption, and were approached by a Houston woman, who provided false medical bills and spoke to them multiple times keeping up the illusion of being pregnant. Even though the Ohio couple had secured a lawyer and verified the mother's identity, they still were not aware this was all a scam, until days after arriving in Houston and tracking down the scammers family.
