REVIEW: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIE FILM

Rating: A

If you were missing some Borat in your life, then do we have great news for you! BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM hits Amazon Prime Video October 23rd and is bringing all the insanity you loved from the film back. For those of us that have been following the news and seeing Sacha Baron Cohen’s name popping up in headlines about him appearing at Trump Rallies and in various cities as the iconic character Borat we could only imagine what type of film was coming our way and now we finally have an answer! The new film which was originally titled Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan follows are favorite journalist as he travels back to the USA to deliver a gift to the one and only Mike Pence. The film pretty much picks up where the 2006 comedy left off catching us up to speed with what Borat has been up to and how he gets roped into his latest adventure. Of course, Borat being Borat we know nothing will go according to plan and when he loses the prestigious gift, he was supposed to deliver he must scramble to find a replacement which, of course, turns out to be his only daughter.

This movie is a crazy for many reasons including the fact that the movie was pretty much filmed in secret and not officially announced until September 2020. Borat popping up at all these different places just seemed like the comedians attempt to troll the general public with his usual hijinks. Despite the fact that Cohan put himself in danger making the first film, having been arrested almost 100 times during filming, he actually had his life in danger making this sequel by not only filming during a pandemic, but he also had to even wear a bullet proof vest on a couple occasions. The filming was made even more insane by the fact that so many people recognized him from the first film, so Cohan had to wear multiple disguises to get away with many of the shenanigans he pulls in the film.

The movie, like the first film, takes a lot of jabs at politics, primarily the Republican Party. It points out a lot of the hypocrisy in American politics in everything from women’s rights, children in cages, abortion, racism, and the cult like feel of some of Republican Rallies. It is almost shocking Cohen is even able to get away with some of the stunts he pulls in the film, but he manages it. There are some solid laughs in this movie despite its over the top comedy. I am keeping things vague on purpose because this is totally one of those films that I think is better if you don’t know what crazy thing could be coming next. Sacha Baron Cohan delivers as Borat and Irina Novak is great as his daughter, Sandra Jessica Parker Sagdiyev. If you enjoyed the first film then buckle up because I think you are really going to get a kick out of this one, we rated BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM with an A. It is a film that is going to ruffle some feathers for sure (Rudy Giuliani we are looking at you), but it’s overall message of showing how insane the current times are in the USA and how important it is to get out and vote if you don’t like what you are seeing is there. I would recommend you give this film a shot. It will be a crazy ride but a fun one.
