As hundred of thousands have fled into Poland, Romania and other countries, many nurseries are passing on proceeds from sunflower sales to Ukrainian aid and refugee support. And the mail order company Harris Seeds is donating 100% of the proceeds from online sales of sunflower seeds.
Sunflowers are Ukraine's unofficial national flower due to their widespread presence across its countryside. Throughout the country's history, the flower has been a symbol of peace, resilience, and warmth.
Now, the sunflower has become a global symbol of support for the country, and Harris Seeds encourages planting sunflowers as a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
