This Is Hurricane Preparedness Week 2021 In Houston

Hurricane season begins June 1st.

This is the week you should really start preparing your home for what's to come.

ReadyHarris.org has been posting short videos on YouTube that are pretty informative.

This week is a great time to start preparing your hurricane kits because some items become harder to find as we get closer to the season.

You need to make sure you have things like batteries, Ziplock bags for documents and other items, glow sticks and power banks for your devices.

You can find a great list HERE.

If you've never been through a hurricane, consider yourself lucky.

They can bring a lot of devastation.

The winter storm we experienced recently wasn't much different.

Stores were closed, we had no running water and no power for almost a week.

Luckily, I had this generator that I got for the 2020 hurricane season.

That kept things like our fridge, fans and electronics running during the power outage. Make sure you have gas cans on hand.

I grilled a lot too during the outage, so propane tanks are probably a good idea.

We have a pretty large basket of flashlights and lanterns at home. Anytime I come across one on sale, I buy it.

You should also have non-perishable canned goods, empty gallon jugs that you can fill with water and baby wipes in your hurricane kit.

If you can, you should buy a little extra to help out a neighbor if they need it.

You never know what to expect during hurricane season, but it's always good to be prepared.

You can get alerts and a lot more info HERE and watch more informative videos HERE.

What other things do you recommend we have in our hurricane kits?

-Jay
