According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Willow series is coming to Disney+. It's been rumored for a while, but Disney and Lucasfilm made it official today. The new series will return to the fantasy world of the 1988 movie and bring back Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood. Original director Ron Howard is on board as executive producer, along with Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, who will also direct the first episode.
The new Willow series will be set decades after the movie and will introduce new characters in a world of sorcerers, fairy queens, trolls, and fire-breathing monsters.
In the original film, Willow was a farmer and aspiring sorcerer forced to leave his family and undertake a perilous journey in order to protect a special baby from an evil queen. He was joined on his adventure by a disgraced warrior (Val Kilmer) and a pair of tiny Brownies (Kevin Pollack and Rick Overton). Aside from Davis, no announcement has been made regarding Kilmer or any other original cast members returning.
