Dana talked about this in yesterday's "Tell Me Something Good" segment. The students in Deer Park Junior High's Caring Community Class have done amazing work this year. Before the COVID-19 crisis forced the cancellation of the class and the event they were planning, the kids had already raised $7,000 for this year's Paige Project recipient, Trenton Godfrey. In lieu of the fundraiser that would have happened this weekend, DPJH is hosting a community-wide birthday parade for Trenton’s 16th birthday.

Over the past 8 years the DPJH Paige Project community service enrichment class (named after Paige Lejeune who was a DPJH student who battled leukemia for 3 years and passed away in 2017) has raised over $200,000 for students in our school district who suffer from cancer or other life threatening illnesses.
This year our students raised money for Trenton Godfrey, a freshman student, who has Friedreich’s Ataxia with heart involvement. Though the service learning class was cut short due to Covid- 19, the students had already raised $7,000 for this young man. On Friday, May 1st we are hosting a community-wide birthday parade for Trenton’s 16th birthday. He has been on hospice for more than a year now, so every birthday of his is very special!
We have ordered yard signs for Trenton’s front yard and have been inviting as many people as possible to join us in honoring Trenton. The community will line up at 5 PM at the Deer Park Methodist Church with firetrucks leading the parade, students decorating cars, students taking up an additional love offering, and more.
We would love to have as many people as possible come to Trenton’s parade and to help us raise awareness for service learning and for Friedreich’s Ataxia.
