Battleship Texas: Moving New Tribute Video

Just over a month ago, Battleship Texas was towed to from San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site to Gulf Copper shipyard in Galveston for major repairs. Pulled by a group of tugboats, she made it to dry dock later the afternoon of August 31. According to the Battleship Texas Foundation, the USS Texas is now out of the water for the first time in 32 years. Work is now underway to repair the hull below the waterline and restore the ship's anti-aircraft guns and secondary battery.

The video immediately below gives us a look at the process of moving the the historic New York-class battleship from her home at San Jacinto State Park to dry dock in Galveston, a massive undertaking. In the video below that, the Battleship Texas Foundation's vice president of ship operations takes us for a walk around the dry dock and explains some of the work being done and associated costs. To stay informed on what's happening with the USS Texas, you can follow the foundation's YouTube channel or check in at the Battleship Updates section of their website.
