Top Gun: Maverick - Jay's Review

I got a chance to see Top Gun: Maverick recently.

Here's the trailer...

Here's the official description:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

This movie is so freaking great!

The music is excellent, the combat & training footage is intense and the story makes sense.

There were times I was watching this movie and I caught myself moving in my seat as if I was in the fighter jet too.

I really liked the original Top Gun.

I thought it was perfect. I loved the soundtrack, the dogfights, the flybys, the studly pilots...everything about it was so good.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this new one, but it hits all the right spots and honors the things I loved about Top Gun.

Yes, Danger Zone is in the movie.

Here are a few more notes...

The relationship between Maverick & Rooster reminds me a lot of Viper & Maverick from the first movie.

Top Gun: Maverick honors Iceman (Val Kilmer) in such a powerful way.

I could actually feel my bones rumble as all these plane engines roared.

From the very first moment you hear the opening of the Top Gun Anthem, you'll instantly be back into the world that brought us Maverick and Goose.

Top Gun: Maverick is one of the movies that kept getting pushed back during the pandemic.

That was the right choice.

This is a movie that should be seen on the biggest screen possible.
