Bond May Skip Theaters, Rumored Streaming Bidding War For NO TIME TO DIE

Daniel Craig's latest (and supposedly final) outing as James Bond was just weeks away from its original April release date when the COVID-19 pandemic forced movie theaters to close and studios to start cancelling or delaying their big tentpole releases for spring and summer. MGM bumped No Time To Die to November 20, but, recently announced that the release date would be shifting to April 2021. Now there may be more changes in store for the 25th Bond film.

It's been heavily rumored over the last few days that MGM is in talks with multiple streaming platforms about buying the rights to release No Time To Die. Sites like Apple Insider, CBR, and various reliable film writers are all hearing that Apple, Amazon, and Netflix are currently in a bidding war for the new 007. This would be a huge development...great for entertainment-starved fans who would love to see the movie a lot sooner, but rough for struggling theater chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. A number of smaller movies have gone straight to streaming services or premium VOD, but this would be the biggest blockbuster yet to bypass theaters.

The film was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch.

Here's the official studio synopsis for No Time To Die:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
