According to Vulture, the classic '70s sitcom Good Times is returning as an animated show on Netflix. The original aired on CBS from 1974 to 1979 and starred Esther Rolle, John Amos, and Jimmie Walker.
The new series will update the setting to present say and follow the Evans family as they deal with contemporary social issues. Boondocks, Black Dynamite, and The Last O.G. writer Carl Jones created the new series and will serve as showrunner. Norman Lear, Seth MacFarlane, and Stephen Curry are on board as executive producers. Jones had the following to say in a press release on the Netflix deal:
"We are excited to carry on the original legacy of Good Times — but now animated and a little edgier. Let’s just say the struggle has just gotten strugglier.”
