A couple of years ago, when YouTube was creating original scripted programming for their subscription service, they rolled out Cobra Kai, a series that follows up 1984's The Karate Kid. Decades after their 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament bout, the show checks in on a middle-aged Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) as they find themselves martial-arts rivals again. It may not sound like a sure-fire hit, but audiences and critics seemed to agree that Cobra Kai perfectly captured the original movie's mix of martial arts action, humor, and heart. The first season even has a 100% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
YouTube decided to cancel the show after two seasons, but Netflix immediately swooped in and picked it up. Fans have been waiting since this was announced earlier this summer and today is the day. If you're looking for a new show to binge this weekend, Netflix has two 10-episode seasons of Cobra Kai waiting for you, and a third season on the way in 2021.
