Many cities and states across the U.S. have made it mandatory for people to wear masks while in public spaces as the country continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases. And even if your specific area doesn't require them, many grocery stores and other retailers are now making masks required across their stores. With the news today that Target and CVS will join the growing list of grocery stores and retailers requiring masks, we've compiled a round-up of stores with the policy below, along with anything else you should know about their policies in regards to facial coverings.
As a reminder, the CDC recommends that "people wear cloth face coverings in public settings when around people outside of their household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain." It's also worth noting that individual and regional grocers may also have this policy so it's always worth checking with your local store before you go.
Costco
The chain has required masks in all of its stores since May 4. The retailer said this does not apply to children under the age of two or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. CVS
The pharmacy chain is requiring all customers to wear face coverings effective Monday, July 20. You can read more here.
DollarTree
The company is requiring all associates, customers, and vendors to wear cloth face coverings when inside stores. You can read more here.
Kroger
The company will require all customers in all Kroger stores to wear a mask starting July 22.
Sam's Club
Sam's Club will require masks on July 20. Stores will have a single entrance and complimentary masks will be provided if the member doesn't have one. You can read more here.
Target
Target will begin requiring customers to wear face masks starting August 1, according to USA Today, excluding "those with underlying medical conditions and young children." They will also be providing disposable masks at entrances for those who don't already have them. Target did not immediately respond to Delish's request for this statement.
Walmart
Walmart will begin requiring customers to wear masks July 20. They will have a "health ambassador" who will be standing near the entrance of the store to remind those without a mask of the new requirements.
