The Phantom Of The Opera: Play Review

The Hobby Center in downtown Houston brought an outstanding performance, and one of the most prestigious plays to town: The Phantom Of The Opera. This was my first time seeing the play so I came in as a fresh pair of eyes, and I could not have loved this play more.

First and foremost, my favorite thing about the entire experience was the music. The play being written in the 80's and being heavily influenced by the music scene of that era knocked it out of the park for me. I am obsessed with 80's thriller sound tracks that involve synth heavy sounds. The orchestra infused with synthesizers as a sound track is a dream come true for me, getting to hear that live and seeing the visuals allowed me to place myself in that era of pop culture, even though I was not alive in the 80's.

The level of production is unmatched. There were so many moving parts to the stage, constantly changing, constantly rotating it was almost hard not to look at the heavy detail of the props. The backgrounds had so much depth, beautiful colors, and the special effects were incredible. All the moving parts and constant changes really enhance the story line and submerge you into the plot. You feel like you are there with them, it makes it hard not to get sucked in to the moment.

As I have previously stated, this was my first time seeing the play and discovering the plot of the story line. I did not know every next move, every next line like my best friend next to me, but I still was blown away by the incredible writing of the story. The choices Christine faced herself with, and the outcome of the plot truly became a heart felt moment for all of us.

Overall I rate this experience a 9.5 and I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to go see it, and if you have seen it then go see it again!

The Phantom Of The Opera is playing now through November 18th at The Hobby Center. Get your tickets HERE or go to The Hobby Center  for more information.
