The King is No. 1 at North America's movie box office.
“Elvis” beat “Top Gun: Maverick” to claim the top spot over the weekend.

The King of Rock and Roll took the crowning slot on Friday, then dropped to second place on Saturday. On Sunday, the films tied for first place, with each earning about $30.5 million over the three days.
When the final results were tallied Monday, “Elvis” had taken in $31.1 million from 3,906 theaters while “Top Gun: Maverick” brought in $29.6 million from 3,948 venues.
For “Elvis,” a $31 million debut is pretty impressive since demographics for an adult drama don't usually rush out to see a movie on opening weekend. Still, it cost Warner Bros. more than $85 million to make, advertise and distribute, so it has some distance to go before turning a profit.
Starring Austin Butler, Olivia DeJonge and Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, the film explores Presley's life and music seen through the singer's complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and his wife, Priscilla. The story spans more than 20 years of Presley's life.
