Trees for Houston and The Astros Foundation are teaming up to give away 2,500 native Texas trees this weekend.

As part of Earth Day activities, free trees in three-gallon containers will be available 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Minute Maid Park’s Lot B, 503 Chartres St. Selections will include American Beautyberry, American sycamore, buttonbush, common persimmon, loblolly pine, pecan, sweetgum, and white oak.
A drive-through system will allow easy pickup - drivers can remain in their vehicles, and their desired trees will be loaded by volunteers. The organization says trees will be small enough to fit in a sedan's back seat or trunk.
Experts will also be on hand to provide tree planting and care advice, and more guidance can be found at the Trees for Houston website.
The group says it has planted more than 680,000 trees in southeast Texas in recent years.
