Listeners are urged to drop off donations at the Gallery Furniture store at 6006 Interstate 45 North. Jim "Mattress Mac" McIngvale says the most-needed supplies are non-perishable food, diapers, cleaning supplies and the following:

  • Bottled Water
  • Pet Food
  • Toiletries
  • Soap
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Deodorant
  • Hairbrushes
  • Shampoo
  • Feminine care products
  • Books, games, puzzles and activities for families with children
  • Socks

Astros owner Jim Crane says the team will provide as many as 30 huge trucks to transport the supplies to impacted Louisiana areas. Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Shen and Sheriff Joe Lopinto will help identify locations most in need.

McIngvale, who also stepped up to help Louisianans after Hurricane Katrina, has invited people who have evacuated to Houston to sleep at his furniture store for free.

Ida crashed ashore Sunday as one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the U.S., even reversing the flow of the Mississippi River.
