An American Music Pioneer is Gone

An American Country Music Legend, Charley Pride, has died at 86 of Covid-19-related complications. He passed away today in Dallas. He was the first black Country Music performer to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Pride loved performing in Houston and played the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 18 times throughout his long career.

Among his friends to send a tribute is Dolly Parton who spoke of her breaking heart from losing a good friend. She ended her tweet with, "Charly, We will always love you."

Former President George W Bush released this statement: "Charley Pride was a fine gentleman with a great voice. Laura and I love his music and the spirit behind it. Plus, he knew baseball: Charley was a big Texas Rangers fan and a player himself. Laura and I send our condolences to Charley and Rozene’s sons and daughter, their extended family, and his countless fans. May God bless Charley Pride."
