STEM Projects From Dyson To Keep Quarantined Kids Thinking And Entertained

We could all use a little help keeping the kids entertained, right? According to Apartment Therapy, the James Dyson Foundation has created a free set of 44 engineering and science challenges to try at home. The projects, intended for kids 7 and older, were actually released in 2016, but the're getting a new promotional push since they're so perfect for the situation we've all found ourselves dealing with here in 2020.

One project has kids create an air-powered racer using a balloon, a plastic cup, straws, thread, and rubber bands to demonstrate Newton’s Third Law. Others include building a submarine periscope, squeezing an egg into a bottle without cracking it, and making a lava lamp with food coloring, Alka-Seltzer tablets, vegetable oil, and a flashlight.

The Dyson Foundation says that challenges like these encourage young people to think differently and realize their engineering potential. Videos for two of the projects are below and you can download detailed instructions for all 44 here.
