Mamma mia! Queen's classic 1975 rock anthem "Bohemian Rhapsody" has achieved yet another milestone. The epic tune's official video has become the first pre-1990s music videoto pass 1 billion views on YouTube.
In celebration of the milestone, Queen has posted a newly remastered, high-def version of the video on its officialYouTube channel, and fans will be able to access the song's lyrics in more than a dozen different languages.
In addition, Queen has launched a new campaign asking fans to create new videos that will be put together for "Bohemian Rhapsody" and two other memorable songs by the band: "A Kind of Magic" and "Don't Stop Me Now."
The rock legends are asking dancers, singers, musicians and visual artists who'd like to contribute their talents to the clips to visit the websiteYouAretheChampions.comlater this week to find out more about how they can submit their parts. The videos will premiere later this year on Queen's YouTube channel.
The original "Bohemian Rhapsody" video, which was inspired by the cover of Queen's 1974 albumQueen II, first aired on the U.K. TV showTop of the Popsin November 1975. The song, which appeared on the 1975 albumA Night at the Opera, became the band's first top single in the U.S., peaking at #9 on theBillboardHot 100.
The song subsequently hit the Top 40 two other times over the years. It reached #2 in 1991, thanks to its appearance in the hit comedy flickWayne's World, and hit #33 last year following the premiere of the Queen biopicBohemian Rhapsody.
