Shannon Elizabeth Admits Her Iconic AMERICAN PIE Scene Is 'Problematic'

American Pie celebrated its 20th anniversary this week and the cast have been sharing fond memories of making the movie.

However, Shannon Elizabeth, who played exchange student Nadia in the raunchy high school comedy, admits that parts of her storyline would be pretty problematic today.

“If this had come out after the #MeToo movement, there would definitely be a problem,” Elizabeth told Page Six.

“I think that it would have gone down differently.”

In the 1999 film, Stifler (Seann William Scott) persuades Jim (Jason Biggs) to set up a webcam in his room so that they he and his friends can watch Nadia change clothes for her ballet class.

She finds Jim’s porno collection and begins masturbating while they watch until Jim is persuaded to return to his room and have sex with her.

He accidentally sends the webcam link to every email on his school list and after the incident, which saw him ejaculate prematurely twice, Nadia is sent home by her sponsors.

None of the boys involved are punished despite being complicit in sharing explicit images of the exchange student, a minor, without her consent.

Elizabeth isn’t the only one to notice how problematic the movie is under a modern day scrutiny.

American Pieis certainly not the only comedy that hasn’t aged well and more often than not we are finding films from the past don’t hold up against today’s standard.

That doesn’t mean people can’t enjoy them for what they were, though let’s hope there’s no plans to remake the franchise any time soon.

Just recently it was revealed that Disney had removed a blooper scene from the end credits ofToy Story 2 that saw Stinky Pete attempting to take advantage of 2 Barbie dolls. AndMidsommarstar Jack Reynor also admitted that a joke about underage sex inTransformers: Age of Extinction probably wouldn’t make the cut in 2019.
