Age could be a factor in the 2020 campaign

Every morning, Henry the Eighth would parade through the middle of Hampton castle on the way to the throne room every morning to show his subjects he was hale and hearty.

US President Donald Trump is the oldest president ever. And making another run at age 72. With a septuagenarian president, and other candidates approaching 80, do we care what is the president's age?

Being leader of the free world is an extremely demanding position and getting there candidates put in exhausting 16 to 18 hour days campaigning.

University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business associate professor of management and director of graduate programs Dr. David Schein said every recent president has visibly aged in office.

"In my book, I suggest that we have one five-year term for president and I think that would be a smarter way for us to do things and would take the age issue off the table, but I don't see that happening any time soon," said Schein.

Medical experts claim physical and cognitive deterioration could become an issue for candidates in their late seventies.

"There are people who are 50 who are not sharp anymore and there are people who are 90 who are incredibly sharp," said Schein.

The last time a Democrat older than 55 was elected to the White House was Harry Truman in 1948.
