Samsung’s New Dating App Uses Your Refrigerator as a Matchmaker

The electronics giant is launching a dating app called refrigerdating that uses what’s in your fridge to help you find a date. The app works with the Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator that comes with an ingredient tracking camera. Here’s how the app works: you take a photo of what’s inside your fridge using the app, upload the image, and swipe right or left based on the items in someone else’s fridge.

Whether it’s fresh veggies or expired BBQ sauce, the contents of your fridge can give your potential date a glimpse of who you are and how your live.

"We hope people can meet under more honest or transparent circumstances with the help of the contents of the fridge, because that can tell you a lot about the personality," said Elin Axelsson, PR manager at Samsung Electronics Nordic based in Sweden.

The idea is to replace the shallowness of filtered selfies with an authentic look into what you consume. Judging someone based on their preference of deli meat or craft beer might sound odd, but with all the quirky dating apps that match partners based on political or religious preferences is it really so crazy to find love based on the same passion for food?
