Pizza Hut has agreed to help feed the homeless thanks to some urging from one star. The fast-food chain was tagged in a tweet from Sia on Saturday, February 2, in which the “Elastic Heart” singer asked the restaurant to do some good.
“Hey @pizzahut would you consider donating a load of pizzas to your local homeless community every night this week?” the 43-year-old musician tweeted. She also included the hashtag “feedtheheart,” and encouraged her followers to retweet her request.
Hours later, the Texas-based chain responded to Sia’s ask with a simple “Done,” which was subsequently met with a celebratory “Woohoo!” from the “Cheap Thrills” songstress.
The initial tweet from Sia seems to be part of a recent effort on her part to bring awareness to the plight of homeless people in the United States. Not long before the Pizza Hut tweet, the Australian songwriter appealed to hotels to lend a helping hand as well. “If there are any motels or hotels in cold or rainy America who would accept a homeless guest tonight, I’ll pay, and give you a plug,” she tweeted. “Pls RT.”
Though Sia is undoubtedly aware of her own platform, she also encouraged her social media followers to help in any way they could. “Ok so for those looking for some way to feel awesome, provide a hot meal for a homeless person this week #feedtheheart,” she tweeted just before her Pizza Hut appeal.
“I’m in,” replied Scooter Braun, who manages music superstars Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
What’s more? Sia’s push to help the less fortunate (and to encourage others to do the same) isn’t just getting noticed by those in her inner circle. Many of her followers and fans have also been using the “feedtheheart” hashtag to do good. For example, after the Pizza Hut tweet, a Twitter user encouraged Subway to donate food to the homeless as well.
