Why Anne Hathaway Won't Drink Again for '18 Years'

Filming Serenity on the island of Mauritius was undoubtedly a lot of work for Anne Hathaway, but she was able to find some fun in between takes.

One example? A tour she took alongside costar Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves, where they tasted some of the best rums the beautiful African nation had to offer.

However, her meeting the next morning with director Steven Knight had a healthy side of hangover — and as of October 2018, she has quit drinking altogether, Hathaway told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her show.

“For 18 years,” said the actress, 36. “I’m gonna stop drinking while my son [Jonathan Rosebanks, 2½] is living in my house.”

Hathaway admitted she doesn’t “totally love the way” she drinks, explaining that Jonathan is “getting to an age where he really does need me all the time, in the mornings.”

“I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school — I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover,” the Oscar winner recalled. “That was enough for me. I didn’t love that [experience].”

“Another reason I don’t want kids,” joked DeGeneres, 60. “I’m not quittin’ drinking!”
