Your phone company may be selling your location

Your smart phone tracks where you are. You know your phone company has that information. Law enforcement can get that information. As it turns out, so can bad guys.

There are new reports showing that your phone company is selling your real time location to third parties, and cyber security expert Robert Siciliano says you never know who is getting their hands on that information.

“This data is being sold through various companies to bounty hunters and potentially stalkers,” Siciliano said.

So you might be wondering what you can do to limit your exposure to this. Siciliano says some homework on Google might help.

You can do some searches online to eliminate mobile tracking, turning off GPS, or preventing carriers from knowing your location,” Siciliano explained.

But, before you do that, consider this. Reports last year said Google was tracking your location, too, and without your permission.
