SCREEN TIME COULD DAMAGE YOUR ADOLESCENT'S BRAIN
We know screen time overload damages our sight...but an ongoing research study funded by the National Institute of Health is finding out the level of brain damage and social retardation it may be causing to your kids. Dr. Aaron Elkins of Texas Woman’s University says parents aren't ready for this: “The ubiquity of screens came up very quickly. In only about 10 years. Culturally and socially, this was a very fast shift.”
In the area of emotional development and mental health, results already show damage. Elkins added, “Children are still growing and changing. For them to be thrown into this ever-changing, addicting, environment without fore-thought of what the consequences might be down the line of their lives – was not our best choice! We, the parents, are a primary model of behavior for our children. What they see us do will highly influence what they will do.”The study has already determined that social skills are already lacking in this group. So put down the phone and visit more with your kids.
The study involves 4500 9- and 10-year olds and costs 300 million dollars.
