Star Wars: Episode IX Started Filming Today

Cameras are officially rolling on the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.  Director JJ Abrams joined Twitter to spread the good news and to pay tribute to the late Carrie Fisher.

An official casting announcement from Lucasfilm last week confirmed expected returning cast members Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata),  Domhnall Gleeson (Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), and Billie Lourd (Kaydel Ko Connix).  We also learned that Mark Hamill would be back as Luke Skywalker (probably in force ghost form) and, as rumored Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.  And most surprisingly, the late Carrie Fisher will be back as General Leia Organa, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The production kicked off today at Pinewood Studios in London.  Star Wars: Episode IX opens December 20, 2019.
