In 2014, former Mayor Annise Parker proclaimed July 25 as the official Houston Random Act of Kindness Day.
The day was actually the idea of Treveia Dennis, who also wanted to continue the celebration by honoring Houstonians who are helping to spread kindness.
Last month, the 2017 Humanitarian Honorees were named at the Third Annual Houston Humanitarian Awards at Royal Sonesta Houston. with hosts Fox 26's Isiah Carey and philanthropist and author Theresa Roemer.
The honorees, who were nominated and selected city council members and community leaders, each received a proclamation by Mayor Sylvester Turner.
The people who were honored were; Sanna Rolin, Jonathan Van Pelt, James Williams, Jim Hicks, Cathy Moore, G. Emerson Scott, Steven Kaufmann,Justin Kouri, La'Voshea D. Hendry, Joy Sewing, Hiawatha Henry, and Carroll Oliver. Go to CHRON.com to read more about them.
