Houston-area water parks opening for summer

As May flowers start blooming and with COVID fears subsiding, the Houston region's water parks have begun opening up for summer fun.

The area's newest addition, Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures, 23101 Highway 242 in New Caney, posted on Facebook that they've overcome staffing and supply chain issues to get underway for the 2022 season.

The park will be debuting the its newest attraction, Big Rivers Fairgrounds, with 11 amusement park rides including a spinning roller coaster, a rocking pirate ship, a 360-degree spinning pendulum and additional activities for children. The new rides will add to those previously available, including water slides, a wave pool, rock climbing, a forest maze, ax throwing, a concert venue and a large aquatic obstacle course.

They're open Saturdays and Sundays in May, moving to daily operation May 30. Admission is $44.99 at the gate or $39.99 online, with season passes priced at $79.99.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor SplashTown, 21300 Interstate 45 in Spring, features water slides, tube slides, boogie-board surfing, a wave pool, a lazy river and an interactive tree house.

They're open Saturdays and Sundays in May, adding Fridays on May 20, and expanding to daily operation May 30. Day passes start at $29.99 with season passes from $69.99.

At Typhoon Texas Water Park in Katy, there are 45 acres of fun with 16 rides that include 1.3 miles of water slides. There's also a children's play area, a 25,000-square-foot wave pool, and a relaxing lazy river. It's open weekends through May 22 with daily hours kicking in May 27. Day tickets start at $34.99 with season passes at $79.99.

Baytown’s three-acre Pirates Bay has a water playground with tot slides and water guns, a winding lazy river and two large slide towers. It's open weekends through May 22 and full time starting May 28. Daily admission starts at $12 and season passes go for as little as $60.

Now open weekends and daily starting June 1, Moody Gardens Palm Beach has 650-foot lazy river, a wave pool and two 18-foot tower slides, plus a splashpad and other activities for younger guests. Day passes start at $25 and season passes begin at $75.

Finally, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island which is essentially open year round in some capacity, is operating weekends through May 15, adding Fridays May 19, and going full time May 26. It has more than 30 rides and attractions, including a wave pool, water coasters, slides, playgrounds, and whitewater rapids. Its newest attraction is Infinity Racers - twin eight-story, head-first racing slides.

All the parks are hiring employees for the summer season.
