Klein High School Teacher Selected For C-SPAN Classroom Program

Congratulations to Klein High School educator Evangeline Mitchell! C-SPAN announced today that she has been selected as one of five participants in C-SPAN’s 2020 Teacher Fellowship Program. Mitchell will collaborate with C-SPAN's Education Relations team for four weeks to create content for C-SPAN Classroom — a free online teaching resource for educators.

Ms. Mitchell is a veteran teacher beginning her 20th year in the classroom teaching U.S. History at Klein High School and has worked with the public affairs cable network for several years. She has previously hosted the C-SPAN Bus for students and participated in the C-SPAN teacher conference. Mitchell regularly attends and presents professional development for teachers and is always looking to share her learning with other teachers. She has worked to enrich educational opportunities for her students by partnering with them to create National History Day projects. Mitchell is currently a nominee for the Gilder Lehrman American History Teacher of the Year.

Director of C-SPAN Education Relations, Craig McAndrew had the following to say about Mitchell:

“With the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to online learning, Evangeline showed creativity and initiative in her approach to teaching and engaging students. We look forward to working with Evangeline as we offer support and options for educators and students as they navigate these uncertain times."

C-SPAN's Fellowship Program selects teachers to partner with the Education Relations team to create new content for the upcoming school year. This summer, due to COVID-19, the four-week, in-person experience has shifted to a virtual platform where educators develop project ideas to feature on the C-SPAN Classroom website. Each Fellow was selected by a panel of C-SPAN representatives and evaluated based on their innovative use of C-SPAN programming in their curriculum, commitment to professional development and creative use of technology and social platforms. Each Fellow will receive $1,000 for participating in the program, which is scheduled to take place July 6 - 31.
