History will be made this afternoon as NASA launches its first manned space mission since 2011. According to KPRC 2, the Demo 2 mission is scheduled to blast off at 3:33 p.m. CST from launchpad 39-A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. With this SpaceX mission, Elon Musk's organization aims to prove that a commercial company can safely deliver people into low-Earth orbit. The plan is for NASA to become a customer rather than the provider of low-Earth orbit projects and allow NASA to focus on longer-term missions like returning to the moon and landing the first humans on Mars.
