We had Palliative Care Nurse Andrea Downey on the show this morning talking about the love and care these specialized caregivers can provide and the need for more! As we get ready for The American Cancer society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer this Saturday at Reliant please take some time to read about efforts to help cancer patients!

This is the info The American Cancer Society shared with me:

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network has launched a new campaign to improve the quality of life for cancer patients. TAKE ACTION by asking your Congressional Representative to support our palliative care legislation.

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses like cancer, and is focused on providing patients with relief from the pain and stress of a serious illness. This type of care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and other specialists in order to provide an extra layer of support, and is appropriate at any age and any stage of the disease. The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and the family, and can lead to a more efficient health care system.

Please do not ignore this opportunity to improve the quality of life for cancer patients! We urge you to support both the Patient Centered Quality of Care for Life Act (H.R. 1666) and the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (H.R. 1339, S. 641).
