Sesame Street Did A Town Hall To Teach Kids About COVID-19

Sesame Street and CNN partnered for a town hall to address kids' and parents' concerns about COVID-19. "The ABC's of Covid 19" aired Saturday night and is available to watch here.

Big Bird moderated, with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and CNN anchor Erica Hill. According to Entertainment Weekly, the program included Elmo learning how to make a face mask, a social distancing PSA from Oscar the Grouch, various Sesame Street characters sharing ways that they're helping people during these difficult times, and advice for parents on talking about difficult subjects with kids, including the loss of a loved one to the virus.

Another guest on the show, child psychologist Dr. Wanjiku F.M. Njoroge, stressed the importance of parents being honest with their children about what is going on:

"Many children are grieving the loss of their regular-day activities, and the loss of someone that they love. Letting them know in very clear and plain language about that loss, and then letting them express their emotions... often help children and families."
