An email campaign by Houston employees of oil giant BP asks Harris County to drop its $23-million lawsuit over the 2010 Gulf oil spill. They may find a sympathetic ear in County CEO Ed Emmett.

Judge Emmett says most of the 4,000 or so emails sent to him and other County officials say the same thing.

"BP is a major employer; the lawsuit is frivolous, that we shouldn't be suing a local company based on something that happened hundreds of miles away that, in their opinion, didn't have any real impact on Harris County."

Judge Emmett voted against filing the lawsuit and he says just because it's an organized campaign it doesn't mean the emails aren't from the heart.

"It can still be from the heart. I mean, every public interest group I've ever dealt with in politics has had orchestrated campaigns but it doesn't mean that the people sending it don't mean what they say."

The County's lawsuit claims it lost $23-million in tax revenue due to the Deepwater Horizon spill.
