San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro is reportedly being nominated as the next head of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The White House has not commented on the announcement, which was scheduled to be made tomorrow.  According to published reports word leaked after several friends and associates of Castro received calls from the FBI, as the agency conducted a background check.

Castro would be tapped to replace current HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, who is believed to be heading to the Office of Management and Budget as part of the reshuffling of the White House cabinet.

Castro is seen as an up and coming member of the Democratic Party.  He delivered the keynote address at the 2012 convention in Charlotte, NC.  His twin brother Joaquin is already a US Congressman, representing west and northwest San Antonio.
