More than 100 rallies are scheduled Saturday in Houston and across the country in what's being dubbed "Operation American Shield" to support police, veterans, and border patrol agents.

“We've got some serious misconceptions going on in this country, people are supporting the wrong people,” says organizer James Neighbors with the group Overpasses for America.  “Our police officers are not all Judge Dredd wannabes.”

Neighbors says this weekend's rallies were prompted in part by recent civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

“Its an unfortunate thing that happened, but people got upset over the wrong things,” he tells KTRH News.  “Honestly, the people of Ferguson should be glad that they've got officers who are willing to stand up, especially after being attacked like Officer Wilson was.”

Local rallies will be held between 10a-1p Saturday on the I-45 and North Street overpass in Houston, I-10 at Fry Road in Katy, I-45 and Loop 336 in Conroe, and the Gulf Freeway at Holland Road in Texas City.
