Houston celebrates Veterans today with a downtown parade and events at Minute Maid Park.

The city's Buddy Grantham says the keynote speaker is a big deal.

"Major General, retired Bob Ivany, who's also the president of the University of Saint Thomas. He played football for West Point and then he got to carry the football for Ronald Reagan with the nuclear codes."

The parade route will start at 10am on Dallas Street and end at Allen Parkway.

The Astros' Dena Propis says Senator John Cornyn and Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst are among the speakers at the ball park -- and there'll be music, too.

"Tracy Byrd and Gary Morris coming; both of whom are legends. We're really, really excited about that."

Astros' hall of fame broadcaster Milo Hamiliton will emcee.

Grantham says it's important to note another job fair for vets will be held during the celebration.

"We've got major companies with lots and lots of jobs. Of course, we're focusing on veterans but I want any Houstonian who needs a job to come down. We're the city of Houston; we want all Houstonians employed."
